Where counselling fits alongside occupational health
If your employer is running its own occupational health process, counselling sits alongside that rather than as part of it. Sessions are confidential talking therapy for you as an individual, separate from any assessment, fitness-for-work report, or return-to-work process your employer may carry out.
Background in workplace mental health
Ann has worked with adults referred through occupational health processes, including through Mind, and that experience has shaped how she thinks about work-related pressure: the slow build of stress before it's named, the particular difficulty of returning to work after time off, and how much a difficult job can crowd out everything else. Clients don't need a similar route in to benefit from that experience; most book directly.
How sessions work
Ann works integratively, mostly person-centred, starting from what's actually going on for you at work rather than a generic template. Where sustained pressure has built up, a circle of control exercise can help separate what's genuinely within your influence at work from what isn't, and CBT-informed techniques can be useful for catching the thought spirals that tend to show up under prolonged stress.
Confidentiality and your employer
Sessions are confidential within the usual professional and legal limits, explained fully at first contact. What's discussed isn't routinely shared with an employer, HR, or anyone else. The counselling relationship is with you, not your workplace.
Common questions
Workplace mental health counselling, explained
Do you have experience with workplace mental health?
Yes. Ann has worked with adults referred through workplace occupational health, covering the range of pressures that show up at work: stress and burnout, anxiety, low mood, and the effect of difficult circumstances at home spilling into a working life. That experience shapes how she approaches workplace-related counselling generally, including with clients who contact her directly.
Is this the same as an occupational health assessment?
No. Ann is a counsellor, not an occupational health physician or assessor. Sessions are confidential talking therapy, not a formal assessment, fitness-for-work report, or return-to-work recommendation. Those come from your employer's own occupational health provider.
Will my employer see what I discuss in sessions?
No. Sessions are confidential within the usual professional and legal limits, explained fully at first contact. What you discuss is not routinely shared with an employer, however you came to be in touch.
Do I need a referral from my employer to book a session?
No. Sessions can be booked directly by emailing or calling Ann, in the same way as any other counselling enquiry. Some clients come through an occupational health process; most simply get in touch themselves.
What kind of workplace issues are covered?
Work-related stress and burnout, anxiety and low mood connected to work pressure, difficulty returning to work after time off, and the wider effect of workplace circumstances on wellbeing. Sessions start from what's actually happening for you, not a fixed programme.
Is workplace counselling available online or by phone across the UK?
Yes. Sessions are available UK-wide by secure online video or telephone, fitting around a working day. £50 for a 1-hour session, £30 for a 30-minute session.
