How Ann works with self-esteem and confidence
Ann works integratively, mostly person-centred, offering a warm, non-judgemental space to explore where a pattern of self-criticism or low confidence has come from. This can draw on CBT-informed techniques for noticing unhelpful self-talk, psychodynamic exploration of where those patterns first took root, often in earlier experiences or relationships, and for some clients an empty-chair exercise, which gives a harsh inner critic an actual shape and a voice, rather than leaving it as background noise.
Who this can help
Self-esteem and confidence concerns show up at any age: young people navigating school, friendships or growing up, and adults facing pressure at work, in relationships, or during a period of change. It's a common thread alongside other things people bring to counselling, including anxiety and low mood.
Common questions
Self-esteem & confidence, explained
Can counselling help with low self-esteem?
Yes. Counselling offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore where low self-esteem or confidence has come from, and to build a steadier, kinder sense of yourself over time.
Is low self-esteem a mental health condition?
Not in itself. The NHS treats self-esteem as part of general wellbeing rather than a diagnosable condition, and offers self-help guidance alongside talking therapy as ways to build it. Low self-esteem can, however, sit alongside or contribute to anxiety or low mood, which are worth mentioning if they're also present.
What approach is used for self-esteem and confidence in sessions?
Ann works integratively, mostly person-centred, drawing on CBT-informed techniques for noticing self-critical thought patterns, psychodynamic exploration of where those patterns first developed, and, for some clients, an empty-chair exercise to give a shape and a voice to a harsh inner critic rather than leaving it as background noise.
Is this counselling for adults or young people?
Both. Self-esteem and confidence concerns come up at every age, from young people navigating school and friendships to adults facing pressure at work or in relationships.
Can I have self-esteem counselling online or by phone across the UK?
Yes. Sessions are available UK-wide by secure online video or telephone. £50 for a 1-hour session, £30 for a 30-minute session.
