What brings people to counselling here

A career change, the end of a relationship, becoming a parent, children leaving home, retirement, a house move, or just a sense of being stuck and unsure what comes next. None of these need to be a crisis to be worth exploring. A lot of the value of counselling during a transition is simply having space to think it through properly, out loud, with someone who isn't part of the situation.

How Ann works with change and growth

Ann works integratively, mostly person-centred, led by what's actually on your mind rather than a fixed structure. This can include a "reach the summit" style exercise, a visual, pen-and-paper way of mapping out a goal or sense of direction, alongside psychodynamic exploration of patterns that tend to repeat during periods of change.

Common questions

Life transitions & personal growth, explained

What counts as a "life transition" in counselling?

Any significant change or period of uncertainty: a career change, the end of a relationship, becoming a parent, children leaving home, retirement, moving somewhere new, or simply feeling stuck and unsure what comes next. It doesn't need to be a crisis to be worth talking through.

Can counselling help if I'm not sure what's wrong, just that something feels off?

Yes. Many people start counselling without a clear label for what they're feeling, just a sense of being stuck, unsettled, or ready for something to change. Sessions don't require a diagnosis or a specific problem to begin. Talking it through is often exactly how clarity starts to form.

What approach is used for life transitions and personal growth?

Ann works integratively, mostly person-centred, so sessions are led by what's actually on your mind rather than a fixed structure. This can include practical, visual tools such as a "reach the summit" style exercise, a way of mapping out a goal or a sense of direction on paper, and psychodynamic exploration of patterns that tend to repeat during change.

Is this different from counselling for anxiety or low mood?

It can overlap, but the focus here is broader than a specific symptom. It's about the change itself, and what it stirs up, rather than treating a defined difficulty. If anxiety or low mood is also part of what you're experiencing, that's a normal part of the conversation too.

Can I have this kind of counselling online or by phone across the UK?

Yes. Sessions are available UK-wide by secure online video or telephone. £50 for a 1-hour session, £30 for a 30-minute session.
